Experience the enchanting concert featuring Dr. Timuçin Çevikoglu – ney, bendir, and vocals- and Bay Area musicians who have been practicing with Timuçin Çevikoglu with special performances by whirling dervishes. Witness the culmination of a unique blend of music and mystical dance at the world music hub, ASHKENAZ, in Berkeley.

YUNUS EMRE ILAHIS

Yunus Emre was a 13th-century Turkish poet, mystic, and Sufi who left a significant mark on Turkish literature and spirituality. Born around 1240 in Anatolia, Yunus Emre is best known for his poetry, which often expressed themes of love, unity, devotion to God, and inner exploration. His work reflects the influence of Sufi philosophy and emphasizes the importance of spiritual connection and love for all humanity.

The program will start with Timuçin Çevikoglu presenting a brief talk on Yunus Emre and the Sufi tradition followed by a performance, offering glimpses into the rich tapestry of poetry of Yunus Emre. Inspired by the profound mysticism, musicians will skillfully showcase select maqams and forms, providing a curated sampling of a musical palette that has echoed through the ages in tribute to Yunus Emre’s legacy.
